Media Conference   Duration: 1/2 day

A course for graduates of Media Assist News and Q&A, or people who have experience with the media.

Media conferences can pose a great risk to a newsmaker as many different media outlets attend at the same time, take the same material but use it in ver different ways! A media conference could be broadcast live, while at the same time be the source for recorded snappy news quotes to be used hours later. Material from the conference could also end up as edited answers on a current affairs show.

Put simply, for a media conference to be successful the newsmaker needs to juggle messages, ‘control the crowd’ while always saying things that suit the newsmaker’s cause. This is not easy!

Components:

Revise News skills.
Revise Q&A skills.
Refine messages and produce a ‘running script’
Sticking to the script.
Presentation.
Tactics (Divide and conquer scenario).
Rehearse.
Video and or audio recording, playback and feedback.

Taking Talkback   Duration: 1/2 day
Answering questions from a journalist is one thing, but answering the public is another!
Generally recognised as one of the most influential communications tools, successful talkback is capable of delivering great results.

This session builds on the knowledge and skills from the Q&A course and gives the additional tools needed to handle callers’ questions convincingly.

Components:

Revise Q&A skills.
Question defining techniques.
Presentation.
Tactics. (Handling Hostile Callers)
Rehearse.
Audio recording, playback and feedback.
Practice techniques for use after the course.

To Camera  
Duration: 1/2 Day (Depending on group size)

A course designed for people who may need to do ‘to camera’ sponsored reports (eg Banking spokesperson with a finance report) Internal corporate communications (eg video news letter). Satellite crosses or video conference presentations.

Components:

Preparation of content.
Defining the rules.
Presentation (Movement, where to look, hands!)
Tactics.
Rehearsal.
Video recording, playback and feedback.
Practice techniques for use after the course.

 

 

Dress Rehearsal   Duration: Variable (due to client needs)

This session puts both the prepared material and the newsmaker to the test. The emphasis is on practical exercises that directly prepare for the upcoming media encounter.

Components:

Message Review/Refine.
Skills Review.
Video and/or audio recording, playback and feedback.

Benefits:

The newsmaker ‘hits the ground running’, is warmed up and ready to go.
Highlights possible weaknesses in prepared messages and helps strengthen them.
Boosts confidence levels of the newsmaker.

 

 

Refresher  Duration: Variable (2 hour min)

Specially tailored courses to refresh the knowledge and skills of newsmakers.
Prior discussion determines exactly what needs to be refreshed and in what time-frame.

These courses are a great way to keep a media team and/or newsmakers sharp, up to date and ready to face the media. They help keep the skills alive and in ‘good shape.’ They are practice-oriented with some review of prior skills and information.
